Producing compelling non-fiction works that move and inform
Documentaries and news stories move an audience like no other video content can. Over the years IDM's founder Doug Broomfield has produced short docs, news pieces and program videos for clients and partners ranging from the State of California and David Packard Jr. to organizations like Adobe Systems and the Center for Exploited & Missing Children. What follows are some selected works.

In partnership with the Voyagers Group and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and in cooperation with Terry & Carl Probyn, we produced a mini-documentary on the 1991 Jaycee Dugard abduction. Jaycee's story was the pilot episode for a series titled "Stolen Lives," a broadcast network program that would feature mini-documentaries on recent missing children cases.
We produced this four years after Jaycee was abducted, finding Terry still holding strong, hanging on to the hope that some day she would find her daughter. The mini-documentary was no doubt an extremely difficult one to work on given the subject matter. That inspired us even more to ensure that we told Jaycee's story with the utmost integrity. The entire production team made it their mission to share with the world her story in a compelling and honest fashion, without sensationalizing the family's journey. Though the pilot never sold to the networks, the endeavor forever changed everyone involved with the project.

14 years later, On August 26, 2009, a miracle happened, Jaycee was found. And we have no doubt that Terry never gave up the hope that she would one day find her daughter. A mother's love knows no bounds.

Though the circumstances under which Jaycee lived for 18 years during her abduction were abhorrent, and there is much healing that needed to happen, her return to her family was indeed something to be celebrated. It re-affirms our belief in faith and hope and that miracles are possible.

"Jack Broomfield - A Wonderful Life" is a personal documentary that Doug produced on his father's life. Though typically we do not include personal family works in our portfolio, this piece is the exception. Loaded with historical b-roll, iconic music, and fully scripted narration, this video showcases Doug's skills as a documentary storyteller.
Originally created for his father's 60th birthday, the piece was updated each ensuing decade until Jack's death in 2020. The project was a labor of love, placing on full display Doug's passion for documentary filmmaking as a producer, writer and editor.
